Welcome to The Ecology Global Network
@ ecology.com!
A planet of 6.7 billion people, under one sun.
This is your community… our community … of news and information where you will not only find commonalities with your global neighbors, but you can communicate your thoughts, contribute your knowledge and opinions, and make ecology.com your home. The Ecology Global Network is a nexus of television, radio, news and general media functionalities, driven by partnerships with individuals, schools, government agencies, NGOs, NPOs, broadcasters and corporations worldwide. It will include tools for individual and group communications via a variety of means including blogs, club memberships, global classrooms, global community forums, and much more.
What you see now is version 1.0. It has the basic platforms and functionalities in place, all new and updated content, including the newly installed radio and television networks. From this point forward, the site will grow each day with new functionalities and new content. Visit each day and watch the progress. Extraordinary teamwork made this happen… people of vision, passion and great talent working in tandem together. You can read about this very special team in the About Us section of the network.
The Greatest Adventure
Undoubtedly, our greatest personal adventures are about learning what we don’t know and exploring the unexplored. The Ecology Global Network let’s us do that – all ages and all walks of life – on our own terms and in communication with others in this global neighborhood. There are so many different ways of looking at things, and the forum for such discovery is offered here… not in competition but in support of and with the support of those who have valuable contributions.
Nobel Laureate, Kofi Annan: Future wars will be fought over water.
Consider this… Nobel Laureate and two-term Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan once stated that future wars would be fought over water… not land or oil. You can understand why when you consider that today one in five people do not have regular use of safe drinking water and that in 15-20 years from now one-third of the world’s population will find itself foraging for fresh water. This very basic of all human needs -- one that we have always taken for granted as being readily available to us -- is already at the beginning of potential political controversy.
Then for further consideration…
Can we connect our own ancestor’s discovery and harnessing of fire to our growing population today? Why did we start to rely on fossil fuels instead of the sun’s energy since the sun is by far a more readily available energy source? At what point did we realize our own human activities were having a significant and adverse impact on the natural world? What is the single greatest impact on our environment today? Can you imagine Antarctica without any ice but rather covered with vegetation?
Innovation, Thinking and Entertainment
The Ecology Global Network is about innovative thinking and entertainment. We call that “eco-tainment!” It is about providing enlightenment, entertainment, education and resources to empower each individual with the tools and information they need to make informed and responsible decisions. Logically, we all know that Earth is changing, has always been changing and will continue to change. It is not static. Yet, we are often not aware of this. With over 6.7 billion people now living on this planet, we are one of the most adaptable species of all and also one of the most vulnerable. Out of all species, humans are the most adaptable and have the greatest abilities to adapt on their own.
All nations share the same basic needs, like water, fresh air, and food. The Ecology Global Network has this premise at its core.
While the Earth ultimately has the extraordinary ability to adapt to changes and reclaim and restore itself, practically every living species does not have that ability. Witness the mass extinctions of the past when nearly all species died off due to drastic changes in their environment; yet, they were replaced by species that would grow and flourish in the new and continually evolving conditions. Is it surprising that over 99.9% of all species that have ever lived on Earth (that we know of) are extinct?
We do not lament this… ecology.com will never approach life as a glass half empty and that time is running out. What we do is the best we can with what we have to work with and do so with great respect for quality of life What we have to work with is phenomenal!. We all need to work together because we all share the same basic needs from the one place we all live. Of all species, we have the greatest ability to make things work together and flourish. It’s a greater ability than our ability to destroy.
Earth is changing… it is not static. As the world turns, we can work and play together and make infinitely new discoveries .This is your community! This is your Ecology Global Network!
