When most of us think of light-emitting creatures, we probably think of the firefly, but bioluminescence is much more common in the marine environment.

Produced by chemical reactions within an organism, the effect of bioluminescence in the darkness of the deep sea can be quite stunning. What happens in the shallow water you’ll have to see to believe.
