The reference of “Green” to industries, businesses, technologies and lifestyles – which is a very broad reference to those practices that instill and use sustainable/ renewable and other “Earth-friendly” practice – is losing its identity. And for good reason.Â
Businesses, governments and industries worldwide are slowly evolving towards sustainability with the understanding that there is no other acceptable choice. Fossil fuels will surely become unmarketable this century, the population is projected to more than double by 2100, and the demand for food, energy, safe drinking water, housing, and other human needs will overwhelm our available resources. Simply being “Green” will not cut it… being smart and innovative will.
When we look at our planet, we see “blue.” It does appear to be the most dominant color of the planet because the majority of its visible surface is water. When the first photo of Earth was taken from another planet — Mars, from the Mars Surveyor craft – it was seen as a blue pearl with its yellowish bright moon companion. ecology.com ran that photo when it was first released by NASA and the Mars Global Surveyor in 2003 with the headline: “It’s the Blue Planet!”
The truth is, the beauty of Earth lies in all of its colors.  Green is but one color in that spectrum, without which the spectrum would not be complete.  Environmental unity is the key concept to everything we do, whether we accept it or not. The environment isn’t about being green, but about life.Â
