Friday Night at the Movies
For some time, I’ve had a working theory that those of us interested in ecology are, consciously or unconsciously and to varying degrees, actually engaged in an attempt to get in tune with the world around us.

Rather than viewing the natural world as an entity apart from ourselves, we recognize that we are a part of it and look for ways we can coexist in harmony. Concern for the environment and the notion of sustainability –  increasingly  critical to the future of life on earth — are, to my mind, based upon this premise,

Each of us has our own way of getting in tune, but few are more fascinating than the path chosen by John Francis — on foot and, for 17 years, in self-imposed silence.

Fortunately for us, Francis has not only broken his silence, but now uses his voice to share his insights and experiences during those years of not riding but walking, and not talking, but listening.

Even better, he does it with a sense of humor. And a banjo.

From TEDTalks, an inspiring and entertaining presentation by John Francis: “I Walk the Earth.”
