Perhaps you’ve heard of the ‘No Impact Man,’ Colin Beavan, who, in 2006, with his wife and daughter, went off the grid in New York City to minimize their negative impact on the environment.

This incredible experiment, which inspired a blog, a book and a movie, has now inspired a challenge to which more than 2000 people have already signed up: “No Impact Week,” starting Sunday, October 18th.

The “No Impact Project”, in partnership with the Huffington Post, invites us to challenge ourselves to lower our environmental impact incrementally through the week, by adding one area of focus per day.

Sunday: CONSUMPTION
Live a fuller and happier life by buying less stuff.

Monday: TRASH
Find out if wasting less improves your life.

Tuesday: TRANSPORTATION
Burn calories, not fossil fuels.

Wednesday: FOOD
Healthy eating can also lessen your foodprint.

Thursday: ENERGY
Replace kilowatts with ingenuity – explore no-energy alternatives to accomplish your daily tasks.

Friday: WATER
Soak up the personal benefits of using less water!

Saturday: GIVING BACK
Pay it forward. Feel the benefits of service.

The No Impact Week How-To Manual provides a clear blueprint to personalize, with motivating ideas for change, steps to take and pertinent facts & figures to propel us through a no impact week into a less impact life.

If you don’t feel up for the challenge, consider reading through the guide. It’s quite an inspiring read for a little environmental impact consciousness raising.
